SPENCER, Iowa — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) along with the Spencer Police Department and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the firearms theft from the federally licensed firearms (FFL) dealer Southern Archery, 305 S.E. 11th Street, in Spencer. The NSSF is matching the reward for a total of $10,000.
On July 22, 2014, unknown suspects broke into Southern
Archery and stole a large number of firearms from the business. This theft is
being investigated jointly by ATF and the Spencer Police Department. Anyone
having information about the theft or the whereabouts of the stolen firearms is
urged to call ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (1-800-283-4867) or the Spencer Police
Department at (712) 262-2151.
This reward is part of a larger nationwide initiative
between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF rewards in cases involving
the theft of firearms from FFLs. This partnership is one of many ways that ATF
works closely with industry members to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse
of firearms.
