FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and Malden Police Seek Stop and Shop Robbers

Reward Offered for Information Leading to Arrest

BOSTON—The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force-Boston Division and the Malden Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify two individuals who used a firearm to rob a Stop and Shop grocery store located at 99 Charles Street, Malden, Massachusetts.

On Monday, September 3, 2012, at approximately 6:00 a.m., shortly after the store opened, two males approached the store from Charles Street wearing yellow Stop and Shop shirts and baseball caps. One of the men created a diversion in the store to draw attention to his actions.

At the same time, the other alleged robber loitered near the manager’s office then opened the door. He confronted an employee in the office, pointed a handgun at the employee, demanded money and threatened to severely harm the employee. The employee complied with the request for money and the alleged robber placed the money in a small black backpack he was carrying. The two alleged suspects then exited the store and fled in a small gray vehicle onto Canal Street.

Both men are described as approximately 20 to 25 years old, slender builds, with black hair. The two men are possibly black or Hispanic with light complexions.

A monetary reward is being offered by Stop and Shop for information leading to the charging and arrest of the alleged robbers. Anyone with information regarding the robbery should call the Boston FBI at (617) 742-5533 or the Malden Police Department at (781) 397-7181.

The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force is composed of personnel from the FBI; the Malden, Saugus, Somerville, and Boston Police Departments; and the Massachusetts State Police.
