Latest Billboard Campaign Leads to the Arrest of Serial Bank Robber Dubbed the “Ball Cap Bandit”

At approximately 7:45 this morning, William Steven Curtis, age 40, of Knoxville, Tennessee, was arrested without incident, by members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF), the Knoxville Police Department, and Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Curtis is facing federal bank robbery charges for three bank robberies, including the robbery of the Home Federal Bank in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on 08/24/2011; the TN Bank of Oak Ridge in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on 11/14/2011; and the Tennessee State Bank in Jefferson City, Tennessee, on 01/04/2012.

The matter was a joint investigation of the Knoxville FBI- SSTF, the Jefferson City Police Department, the Oak Ridge Police Department, and the Pigeon Forge Police Department.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

FBI Launches Electronic Billboard Campaign to Identify Serial Robber

Today, the Knoxville Division of the FBI launched an electronic billboard campaign seeking the public’s assistance to help identify a serial bank robber active in East Tennessee. The individual is suspected of robbing of at least three banks in Tennessee.

The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair, a goatee, and a mustache. He is approximately 6’ to 6’2” tall and weighs between 220 and 240 pounds. He is possibly in his 30s and has been wearing a baseball cap during each of the robberies.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this individual. Anyone with information should contact the Knoxville Division of the FBI at 865-544-0751 or call their local law enforcement office.

This matter is a joint investigation of the Knoxville FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Jefferson City Police Department, the Oak Ridge Police Department, and the Pigeon Forge Police Department.

Searching for Individual Who Robbed TN Bank of Oak Ridge

The Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Chief Jim Akagi of the Oak Ridge Police Department (ORPD) are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual who robbed the TN Bank of Oak Ridge today.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., the suspect entered the TN Bank of Oak Ridge located 900 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, displayed a note, and demanded money. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male with a goatee and mustache, in his mid- to late 30s, approximately 6’ tall, and weighing 200 to 220 pounds. The suspect was wearing khaki pants, a dark-colored polo-style shirt with a white shirt underneath, and white tennis shoes. He was also wearing a blue University of Kentucky (UK) baseball hat.

After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, the suspect fled the scene on foot. A reward is being offered for any information which leads to the arrest of this individual. Anyone with information is asked to please call the Knoxville FBI at 865-544-0751 or the ORPD at 865-425-4399. This matter is being investigated jointly by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force (which consists of personnel from the FBI, KPD, and KCSO) and the ORPD.
