NEWARK, N.J. — A man from the United Kingdom, wanted for sexual assault on a five-year-old in his home country, was deported and turned over to British officials Jan. 19 by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
John William Perring, 40, was transferred to the custody of British law enforcement authorities by ICE ERO. Perring was wanted by Essex Police on the sexual assault charge.
Perring was arrested in December 2011 by special agents with ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) outside his residence in Orange, N.J., and was subsequently turned over to ICE ERO for deportation from the country.
"The removal of individuals who pose a threat to public safety from the United States is a top ICE ERO priority," said John Tsoukaris, field office director for ICE ERO in Newark. "ICE will continue to work with our law enforcement partners at home and abroad to ensure those who think they can seek safe haven in this country are brought to justice."
Since Oct. 1, 2009, ICE ERO has removed about 260 foreign fugitives from the United States who were being sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder. ICE ERO works with ICE's Office of International Affairs, foreign consular offices in the United States, and Interpol to identify foreign fugitives illegally present in the country.
