Suspect Charged in Connection with Robbery of First Merit Bank Branch in Chicago

A Hillside man was charged today in connection with yesterday morning’s robbery of the First Merit Bank branch located at 7227 West Addison, Chicago. Charlie Montalvo, 36 years of age, of the 4200 block of Edgewater in Hillside, was arrested shortly after the robbery by law enforcement agents.

Montalvo was charged in a criminal complaint in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery, a felony offense. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sheila Finnegan earlier today, at which time he was formally charged and ordered held until his next court date. Montalvo is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday, June 7 at 12:45 p.m.

Although not included in the complaint filed today, Montalvo is also a suspect in several other bank robberies and an attempted robbery dating back to August 2011.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
