Bank Robber Sentenced to More Than Five Years in Prison

PHILADELPHIA—Hiram Joseph Adams, 45, of Philadelphia, was sentenced today to 63 months in prison for four counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. On July 8, 2009, Adams robbed the Wachovia Bank at 1700 Market Street, Philadelphia; on July 21, 2009, Adams robbed the Valley Green Bank at 7226 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia; on May 4, 2010, Adams robbed the Citizens Bank at 1000 Easton Road, Cheltenham Township; on May 28, 2010, Adams attempted to rob the Citizens Bank at 8616 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia; on June 4, 2010, Adams robbed the Sovereign Bank at 800 E. Willow Grove, Springfield Township, Pennsylvania. He pleaded guilty to the charges on November 17, 2010.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Legrome D. Davis ordered Adams to pay total restitution to the five banks of $14,965, and complete three years of supervised release.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney William H. Weiland and Assistant United States Attorney Salvatore L. Astolfi.
