Acting Director Howard Spivak announces NIJ's plans to work with private-sector product certifiers to develop acceptable equipment performance criteria by which NIJ would recognize private certification programs. This pilot approach will expand the types of criminal justice equipment addressed, such as civil disturbance unit personal protective equipment, without increasing costs.
