Marijuana Load Seized in Las Milpas by Weslaco Agents
Las Milpas, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Weslaco Station seized 859 pounds of marijuana Wednesday.
Yesterday at about noon, Weslaco bike patrol agents observed a suspicious blue-green minivan traveling north from the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed near the Pharr port of entry. The agents followed the vehicle to a Las Milpas residence where the driver bailed out and fled on foot. The passenger, a male Mexican national, was apprehended by the agents. An inspection of the vehicle revealed 20 bundles of marijuana in the cargo area of the van with a value of nearly $700,000.
The vehicle was seized and the Drug Enforcement Administration assumed custody of the narcotics.
To report suspicious activity, contact the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector’s toll-free telephone number at 1-800-863-9382.
