Vehicle Stop Yields More Than 600 pounds of marijuana
Border Patrol Agents Seize Contraband
April 21, 2010 - Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station recently seized more than 600 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $400,000.
Early Friday morning, agents observing traffic near Carrizo Springs noticed a white Dodge pickup truck on FM 2644, traveling away from the U.S./Mexico border. As the truck passed the agents’ location they could see numerous duffel bags – the type typically used for marijuana trafficking - stacked in the bed of the truck. The agents pulled over the vehicle and found a total of 13 large duffels, each one loaded with bricks of marijuana. The driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. The smuggler, vehicle, and contraband – with an estimated street value of $492,880 - were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
